Sound Ideas has sent our crew to various watery locales to record the unique sounds made by boats. In Florida we recorded the unusual sounds of a propeller-driven air boat. We also recorded the more subdued sounds of a cabin cruiser and we got up close and personal with the boat's motor. We even recorded a high-powered jet boat - soaking our engineer in the process!

This reminds me of a featured story in Discovery where a killer whale learned to mimic boat engines. It was a really interesting adaptation although I still don't know what implications that entails.

I've heard that whales are quite intelligent, but wow... that is definitely amazing! I assure you that no whales were used in the recording of these boats! ;)
