Recording Dynamite Explosions for Sound Effects

Sound ideas is on location in Haliburton, Ontario recording the sound effects of dynamite explosions.

A series of blasts of explosive charges will be used to turn this solid rock wall into gravel.

Workers begin by clearing water from the more than 100 blast holes that have been pre-drilled to hold the explosives. Next they place the initial charge attached to a long fuse into the blast hole. They then set the main charge on top of the previous one. Finally they pack in a third layer of explosive material to fill the rest of the cavity and when the "all clear" is given, the explosions begin.

Our extreme sound effects collections offer an outstanding selection of destructive sound effects and sequences - everything from explosions and blasts, disasters, earthquakes, marine accidents, underwater mishaps, crashes, crunches, hits and impacts, and loads of wonderful debris and destruction. We also offer electrical sparks, arcs and zaps, crashes, smashes, hits and punches, large impacts, guns and helicopters, electronic beeps & buttons, telemetry and computers, a full range of explosions, weather and natural disasters, and an entire galaxy of potent sci-fi FX, ambiences, and alternate realities.

Because sound ideas goes to extremes to get the sound effects you need.

What is Foley Sound by Sound Ideas

Foley is the process of creating sound effects live in a studio to match a pre-recorded piece of video. A variety of props are used to create sound effects that can't properly be captured on set. Watch two foley artists bring an action sequence to life with perfectly synchronized sound effects!

Recording Airplane and Helicopter Sound Effects by Sound Ideas

In our efforts to bring you the best in royalty free sound effects, Sound Ideas has taken to the sky to record airplanes. Our sound engineers were able to gain exclusive access to airport runway areas normally off limits to the public. This gave us the perfect location for recording airplane sound effects both on the ground and in the air. We've also captured the authentic sound effects of classic world war II airplanes.

It's not just airplanes - we've also recorded helicopter sound effects. We were even able to record the sound effects of an f-18 fighter jet.

Recording Boat Sound Effects by Sound Ideas

Sound Ideas has sent our crew to various watery locales to record the unique sounds made by boats. In Florida we recorded the unusual sounds of a propeller-driven air boat. We also recorded the more subdued sounds of a cabin cruiser and we got up close and personal with the boat's motor. We even recorded a high-powered jet boat - soaking our engineer in the process!

Recording Car Crash Sound Effects by Sound Ideas

The Sound Idea's recording crew rented some heavy duty equipment and set out to destroy a lot of vehicles in the name of recording car crash effects. We dropped huge rocks on cars, trucks, and vans in order to capture the unmistakable sound of crumpling metal. We even dropped the cars themselves to create a unique impact sound. And this was nothing new for our engineers who, almost 20 years earlier, had recorded a crew of stunt drivers performing all kinds of stunts and manoeuvres.

So, whether we're dropping cars from the sky, or just at the race track...

Recording Explosions by Sound Ideas

Sound Ideas hired a licensed explosives expert to put together explosions in a remote wide open location in the Nevada desert. Using a sniper's rifle with a silencer to set off the explosives, our early morning recordings created just the right environment - no wind, insects, people or airplanes, - just pure, clean, natural ring-off and debris from the explosions.

Recording a Monster Truck by Sound Ideas

Sound Ideas hired a professional driver to put a Monster Truck through all the paces... fast approaches and passbys, Monster engines revs, figures 8s, and engine reverses - we even mic'd the undercarriage for the best possible sound recording angles!

And, as an added bonus, we added an extra dirty mud puddle for our Monster Truck to play in!
